You can’t just say, “I don’t see the artist’s name on the work so I guess that means I can use it.” They could have asked the people in the neighborhood, emailed town officials, etc. to at least try to track down the artist. Besides, isn’t the real issue that the H&M design team is supposed to be coming up with their own ideas for artwork, not stealing other people’s?

I’m one of those who after reading April’s post last night, thought that H&M was perhaps not entirely in the wrong, because the sign was public art/graffiti, and how could they be expected to find the artist? However, now that the artist has stepped forward, I hope H&M will do the right thing and give her credit for her design, which they clearly copied.
