Do It Live: America’s Got Talent: Season 6, Episode 15 (2nd Quarterfinals)

It’s that time again. America’s Got Talent is about to start its second Quarterfinals. Judging by the gigantic spike in traffic last Tuesday night, I’d say the live blog was quite a success. I had fun doing it and clearly some people had fun reading it. That means more of my instant response, preferential ranking, and predictions live.

Feel free to chime on in with your own opinions throughout the broadcast. I’d love to hear them.

Let’s Get Started

Opening the show tonight are Attack Dance Crew. They’re the dancers who had the brand new style of dance that confused the judges. I rather like their formation changes and unisons, but can they win over Howie who thinks they are just cheerleaders?

Life Lessons with RuPaul’s Drag U: Season 2, Episode 4

This week on RuPaul’s Drag U, we learned many important lessons about virginity. For example, hipsters who wear ironic sweaters lose all right to complain about not ever going on a date. If you’re intentionally pushing people away because it’s cool to do it, you are only desperate for attention.

All kidding aside,* RuPaul invited three virgins to be remade into the women they hope will attract real live horny men. It kind of defeats the purpose of the exercise when it’s done on a gay satire of reality TV makeover shows. Hey, I’m sure there’s at least one other straight guy watching to learn how to groom down there with Lady Bunny, right?

The Walking Dead Season 2 Promo

I got into The Walking Dead after it finished its first season run. It’s not that I wasn’t interested in the show; I was. I actually have the first comic, signed, in my collection from when the creator was doing early promotion on the horror convention circuit. It’s a great concept.

It’s just that I couldn’t stay up late enough at the time to keep up with the series live. The first episode (stupidly) premiered on Halloween*, so that I had to catch up on an encore presentation. It was good. But the next week, I was too tired and there was no place to catch the reruns online. AMC has been big on not streaming its shows online after they air, which is an odd choice when most other networks air the episode then release it to streaming within 48-72 hours of the premiere.

Does it matter? We have a promo for season 2. It’s horribly not safe for work due to massive zombie head trauma. It’s also an uninterrupted 40 second scene that gets me very excited for the show.

*Stupid because many of the people online who were pimping the series were home haunters. We’re booked all night on Halloween and that’s when you choose to premiere the show?

So, are you going to watch like me? Worried about anything? Complaints and concerns from the first season? Sound off below.

Streaming TV Review: Doctor Who, Series 1 (2005)

Perhaps the one nice thing I’m willing to say about Netflix streaming (after the massive log-in service outage that occurred on Sunday night that they won’t apologize for and the absurd price increase) is that they do have a deep catalog of streaming TV series. Even a year ago, you would be able to stream maybe half of a season of a TV show before you’d have to order the discs. This is now a rarity.

One of the shows I’ve been able to experience for the first time is the long-running British sci-fi favorite Doctor Who. I knew all about the mythology. I could identify TARDIS from a line-up of phone booths and emergency boxes and I could explain the regeneration and many forms of the doctor. But I hadn’t actually experienced the show until last week when I buckled. I resisted it because all too often I just don’t like a sci-fi TV program. This is not one of those cases.

The 2005 revival of the series adds flashy computer graphics and a younger-leaning cast to the halls of Doctor mythology. The Doctor (played this season by Christopher Eccleston) returns to earth in 2006 to prevent the Autons–plastic aliens that mimick other species–from conquering the planet. In the process, he meets a young shop clerk named Rose. Because of the Doctor’s efforts to destroy the Autons, he puts Rose out of a job. They continually bump into each other until they defeat the alien species together and launch off in the TARDIS–time traveling ship disguised as a police call box–for more adventures.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the series for me is the strange continuity.
